Following on from the debut smash 'Misdemeanour' by exciting new production outfit The CBs; Jam City opens its gates to yet another up and coming talent, this time in the form of the hotly tipped Yorkshire based collective Grinny Grandad. Born through the creative mind of band member Chris 'Mo' Morton, whose 'scissors and string' ethos fuses surreal references with old school record-crate creativity to produce an infectious brand of subterranean electro, funk-pop like no other.
The second instalment of the Jam City empire 'The Good Girl (A.Skillz remix)' certainly doesn't disappoint - laced with a heavy slab of feel good funk, it combines an ultra catchy flute line, slick organ keys and emphatic horns with sassy, juicy vocals from Kymberley Kennedy, all underlined in bold by Jam City's head honcho A.Skillz' trademark beats. This truly is a foot tapping, hand clapping party banger that's here and here to stay.

I was quite excited to learn that some of my songs are getting airplay in the USA. Yay!
Burn Like Ice, Iris, The Good Girl (remix), Bleeding Time and Black, White & Ginger are making their way round radio stations.
A big thank you to OC Rock Radio (California, USA), Kool Rock Radio (New York, USA) and Head Case Radio (Seattle, USA)! A big thank you also goes out to High Voltage, Grinny Grandad and Studio Star for allowing me to collaborate with them on the music.
I am also happy to say that the songs will be played a little closer to home on Newport City Radio too!
Happy listening!

So I said a few weeks ago that I would be doing a DJ Mix (my very first, I might add) and, after some computer failure and many nights fueled by twizlers and cups of tea, I've finally finished it!
You can download it for free from my SoundCloud page!

24th January, 2010Being the busy little bee that I am, I have taken the liberty of doing a few covers of songs by other artists whilst writing my own music. I've already done my own versions of Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones and Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls.
I intend to finish As by Stevie Wonder and another song that will, for the time being, remain a secret, though I must stress that this secretive cover of mine will be completely acapella. By this I mean that all synth, bass lines, guitars, etc will be imitated solely by my warbling little mouth.
You can find these tracks on my YouTube channel:

Happy listening!
15th December, 2009I'm quite excited about the fact I just recorded some audio for a computer game. It was a lot of fun. Basically the spec was screaming and shouting as though I was being attacked/ chased by mummies (I don't mean the lovely, soppy sort that you are born to, but more the sort you see in The Mummy movies).
I think I freaked the neighbours out a little, although the police weren't called. From that I can only conclude that either my neighbours didn't believe I was been attacked/ chased... or they didn't care, hehehe.
No matter. I had fun doing it.
I shall update this page upon its release...
22nd October, 2009I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Burn Like Ice (otherwise known as Homebound, produced by High Voltage) had reached #20 in the Hungarian charts earlier this month. I was even more surprised to learn that the track had beat the likes of Robbie Williams, Jay Z and The Gossip!
At #23 for the week ending 18th October 2009, it's just one place behind The Noisettes.
Ecstatic is the only way to describe how happy I am that it has been well received over there.
12th October, 2009Fly Global Music have reviewed the album 'The Voodoo Trombone Quartet.... Again' which features my collaboration with the The Voodoo Trombone Quartet, Honey Bee.

6th September, 2009The release date for The Good Girl (DJ Askillz Remix) has been pushed back to December this year. Further information on the Finger Lickin release coming soon...
29th August, 2009The track Burn Like Ice (also known as Homebound) recently charted at #20 in Hungary.
15th July, 2009As predicted, Parker has done it again and created another gem of a track in his remix of Black, White & Ginger. The tantalizing carnival vibe remains cleverly playful throughout. Previews of the track can be found on my myspace -simply click the key chain link.
21st June, 2009I am currently seeking out talented artists and illustrators to help promote my new music (which should follow in the next month or so).
I already have a few wonderful people doing various pieces for me but I am looking for a wide variety of different styles of artwork.
So by all means, let me know if you think this is something you'd be interested in.
22nd May, 2009Black, White & Ginger is set to be remixed by Parker, the man who's highly acclaimed debut album, To Eternity, has marked the Bristol native as a rising star in the world of breaks and beats. With rave reviews from Radio 1, BBC Music, DJ Yoda and Massive Attack's Daddy G, the BWG remix looks set to be yet another Parker masterpiece.
7th May, 2009The Good Girl (DJ Askillz Remix) is due for release on Finger Lickin Records in July.
24th March, 2009The Voodoo Trombone Quartet are an 8 piece band represented by Freshly Squeezed Music who, over the last few years, have had their music featured on prestigious TV shows such as Ugly Betty and MTVs new series The Paper. So imagine how happy I was when I was asked to collaborate with them on their track, "Honey Bee".
The beginning of the track is reminiscent of the quirky Austin Powers theme tune and the imaginative trombone solos throughout exude the same genius and originality of some of their earlier work.
18th March, 2009I recently worked with DJ Askillz on a track called Really Got It, which is due to be released on his new album. With influence from some of the greats ( De La Soul, James Brown and Jurassic 5), "Really Got It" is a funktastic track in its own right. Look out for the velvet smooth male vocals, courtesy of our good friend Jorge.
30th January, 2009Kymberley Kennedy was nominated twice at this years Breakspoll Awards. The first nomination was Best Live Act alongside Grinny Grandad and the second, Best Track, for the work she did with DrumAttic Twins on their single "Can't Give You Up".
18th October, 2008I am leaving Grinny Grandad to pursue solo projects. Thank you to all Grinny Grandad supporters and a special thanks to Chris Morton (the man behind GG) for being my rock, my muse and inspiration in all things musical.
23rd May, 2008Grinny Grandad have done it again. They are officially the last act to be booked for this years Glastonbury Festival, set to play on the Jazz World stage on Sunday 29th June 2008.
Glastonbury is the epitome of all that is nonchalant, rebellious music. Despite increased security and entry guards, Glastonbury is still the place where anybody from the average day street urchin to the high class music connaisseur can claim sanctuary in amongst crowds of thousands.
The stage on which York based band Grinny Grandad will be performing has paid homage to the likes of Morcheeba and present day warbler, Amy Winehouse. It provides a bridge between dance and rock music. With that and a highly credited bar on hand to quench the thirst of any hardcore party addict, it looks set to be a performance to remember. Grinny Grandads commitment and modest attitude is testament to their success.
The eclectic musical marvels are due to support The Blessing, whose members formerly performed as half of Portishead, on July 4th and will play alongside Utah Saints at The Beatherder Festival on July 5th. With Yorkshire bands like One Night Only already topping the charts, 2008 looks set to be the year that Grinny Grandad officially break into the music scene.
29th March, 2008Grinny Grandad are set to have a live recording session on March 29th at Maida Vale studios in London as part of BBC Introducing. The studio, where the likes of legendary artists The Rolling Stones have performed, is a vast entity of music mythology, not dissimilar to the Holy Grail- everybody wants to record there, but only a selected few are given the chance.
Grinny Grandad will have the opportunity of working with some of the best producers and audio engineers money can buy. Look out for their live session which will be broadcast on Radio 1 for all hear.
1st March, 2008Kymberley Kennedy is be featured on the newest instalment in musical gold dust from Finger Lickin favourites, Drumattic Twins. The double A side single, due for release March 3rd, which features the tracks Broken Planet/ Can't Give You Up, has already amassed a wide range of publicity and avid listeners with the seemingly obvious mission to have the obligatory seal of approval registered on the project.
One listen to the single and it seems almost inevitable that they (Drumattic Twins) will be nominated for the award of Best Producer at this years Breakspoll International Breakbeat Awards. The two tracks bring vibe, energy, a hint of dirtiness with the elation and body rush that comes after a true dance floor work out. Broken Planet is in a league of its own and promises to give older Drumattic tunes like Hyperspeed a run for its money.
Can't Give You Up was the track upon which Kennedy worked her magic. Together, their ability to recognise and emphasize the down right "just don't give a damn" attitude of the vocals was the result of their benevolent victory- they succeeded in making an absolute killer of a tune into a track that grabs your attention, renders you into submission and demands recognition.
Unequivocally the impossible has become possible. The Drumattic Twins have managed to surpass even their slick musical levels and Kymberley Kennedy seals what appears to be a lasting partnership and the long awaited credit she deserves, proving once and for all that she is a force to be reckoned with.
Maybe next year Kymberley Kennedy will be nominated at the Breakspoll Interntational Breakbeat Awards. Only time will tell.
